Recently my Windows 10 PC has started to randomly pop up the 'cmd.exe - Application Error. The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.' I ran the System File Checker and it indicates no problems. I'm unclear as to how to identify the issue if I run a Clean Boot.
How will this identify what is causing the problem? Also, will my Windows PC retain my normal boot sequence the next time I shutdown and restart or does the clean boot alter my normal boot sequence? Hi Michael, Error 'cmd.exe - Application Error. The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142' may appear due to software conflicts. Photo vino g bastian.

I try to open any Office 2016 programs and first it shows me the message 'something went wrong', i have tried to repair it every time it stops saying that it had trouble fixing Office 2016 and after a couple of times it shows that error message (0xc0000142). I tried to open it in safe mode and i couldn't open it again.
I can't uninstall Office 2016 because i don't have the product key and the email where it was bought. Please help me I really need to finish my school project.
I started my PC today and as soon as Windows booted up I got this message for all my startup item(the only way I can get any programs to run is through Safe Mode).Seems to come up for every.exe file I try to run. I started to see the signs of it last night when some applications and games just outright refused to launch. I tried doing a couple of things: I ran Malwarebytes and did a scan found some infections and got rid of them, ran the System File Checker and restarted the computer afterwards, tried to do a System Restore.
None of these things helped, however after the Malwarebytes scan some programs did start briefly but then something kicked in and I was unable to launch them again. System File Checker told me that some files were fixed and some were not. My Antivirus software doesn't pick anything up either. I've attached the CBS.log from System File Checker to this post. I had this problem a long time ago but I forgot how I fixed it that time.
My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? Ok well I ran SFC about 5 times now and no improvement. I looked at that guide you posted and most of the options didn't work:With Option One the Windows Setup disc couldn't even find my Windows Installation for some reason and when I tried to use the alternative(diskpart) it said the architecture was different between /offbootdir and /offwindir so it couldn't start the sfc process. With Option 2 I tried to use the Update Readiness Tool but even that just refused to install without giving me any error codes or messages.

I did generated sfcdetail.txt file with Option 3 and looked through it, it repaired a few files mostly ones I patched to use custom Themes and that's fair enough I can change them back later but after the first one or two runs of SFC it seems to only have issues with a file called 'iassdo.dll.mui' and cannot repair it giving the error message 'cannot repair member file' I'm not sure what this file does or if it has anything to with my issue. Would it be safe to grab it off the Windows disc and replace the one on my HDD?. Are you able to log in Normal mode?. Does the error occur when you try to open any particular program?.
Did you make any recent changes to the computer? This error means 'DLL initialization failed'. You may perform a clean boot to verify if any third party application services or startup item is causing this issue. To perform a clean boot we will have to run System Configuration Utility. To perform clean boot, follow the steps: 1. Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All. Click Apply and OK. When you are prompted, click Restart. After the computer starts verify whether you can download files. If your issue is resolved after performing Clean Boot, then follow the steps mentioned in the following KB article to narrow down the exact source: Also, see the section on how to return your computer to a Normal startup mode by following the steps under “Reset the computer to start as usual”.
Hope this information is helpful. The clean boot troubleshooting worked. Everything started working after I put into a clean boot and slowly started adding my startup programs back in. I think it actually may have been my firewall that was the cause of the problem. Not the actual program itself but it's service which was running in the background.

I noticed that if I turned on the PC Tools Firewall service programs would just cease to launch. So I just uninstalled it, guess I have to find a new Firewall but as long as Windows works properly I don't care. Thanks for your help, Archer. General Discussion Hi all, PC was running fine and shut down correctly. Came to switch it back on and get the above error message on just about every application I click on. No errors on booting up to the Desktop though. Same problem whether it is a shortcut or the actual.exe file. Seems not to affect the 64 bit. I have a client/server app which I have been developing on a single PC. Now it needs two serial ports, so I borrowed a PC from a friend. When I build my app and try to run or debug it (whether in the Delphi IDE or from Windows File manager), it errors 'The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)'. Googling doesn't bring up much, but seems to indicate that this is nothing Delphi specific and happens with other apps. It seems to be caused by calling into a 32 bit DLL from a 64 bit app or vice versa.
both PCs are Windows 7, 64 bit. both have Delphi Xe2 starter edition which can only handle 32 bits. The app runs fine on my PC, but not on my friend's.

Other Delphi apps run just fine on both PCs Can anyone give me a hint as to how to track this down? I tried all the things specified here and found yet another answer. I had to compile my application with 32-bit DLLs. I had built the libraries both in 32-bit and 64-bit but had my PATH set to 64-bit libraries. After I recompiled my application (with a number of changes in my code as well) I got this dreaded error and struggled for two days. Finally, after trying a number of other things, I changed my PATH to have the 32-bit DLLs before the 64-bit DLLs (they have the same names). And it worked.
I am just adding it here for completeness. I experienced the same problem developing a client-server app using Microsoft Visual Studio 2012. If you used Visual Studio to develop the app, you must make sure the new (i.e. The computer that the software was not developed on) has the appropriate Microsoft Visual C Redistributable Package. By appropriate, you need the right year and bit version (i.e.
X86 for 32 bit and x64 for 64 bit) of the Visual C Redistributable Package. The Visual C Redistributable Packages install run-time components that are required to run C applications built using Visual Studio. Here is a link to the. You can check what versions are installed by going to Control Panel - Programs - Programs and Features. Here's how I got this error and fixed it: 1) I developed a 32 bit application using Visual Studio 2012 on my computer. Let's call my computer ComputerA.
2) I installed the.exe and the related files on a different computer we'll call ComputerB. 3) On ComputerB, I ran the.exe and got the error message. 4) On ComputerB, I looked at the Programs and Features and didn't see Visual C 2012 Redistributable (x64). 5) On ComputerB, I googled for Visual C 2012 Redistributable and selected and installed the x64 version.
6) On ComputerB, I ran the.exe on ComputerB and did not receive the error message. You can have this if you are trying to manifest your application that it has a dependancy on the Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls assembly.
You do this when you want to load Version 6 of the common controls library - so that visual styles are applied to common controls. You probably followed Microsoft's original documentation way back from Windows XP days, and added the following to your application's manifest:
